Our Mission
Laura Mitchell Books exists to make life easier for autistic adults and the people who support them — particularly around autistic burnout, self-care, and daily-life strategies. Topics like burnout recovery, sensory regulation, and building sustainable routines are often either overly clinical or thin on practical detail. Our goal is to offer calm, respectful, plain-language guidance that autistic readers can actually use.
How Our Content Is Created
Our books and articles are developed through an extensive research process, drawing on publicly available autism research, resources from autism advocacy and support organizations, and ongoing discussion within the autistic and wider neurodivergent community. We aim to reflect current, respectful, and practical thinking at every stage.
We also use AI tools as part of how we research, draft, and produce content, including the imagery associated with the “Laura Mitchell” name. You can read more about our use of a brand persona, “Laura Mitchell,” on our About page.
We are a growing, independent publisher. We do not currently have a credentialed autism specialist, psychologist, or occupational therapist formally reviewing every article prior to publication, and we do not claim otherwise. Our books are written to support and validate, not to diagnose or replace individualized clinical care. We believe it’s more useful to be upfront about this than to imply a level of professional review that isn’t in place. If and when that changes, we’ll update this policy to reflect it.
Editorial Independence
Our content reflects our own research and editorial judgment. We are not paid by any organization, clinic, or product manufacturer to promote their services, and no outside company has editorial control over what we publish.
Our Use of AI Tools
We’re transparent that AI tools are part of how this site and its content are produced — from research and drafting assistance to the imagery associated with the “Laura Mitchell” name. AI tools support our process; they do not replace human editorial decisions about what we publish, and every piece of published content is reviewed by our editorial process before it goes live.
Accuracy & Corrections
We do our best to keep information accurate and current, drawing on established, publicly available autism research and community resources. Understanding of autism and autistic burnout continues to evolve, and we review our content periodically to reflect that.
If you believe something on this site is inaccurate, outdated, or not reflective of autistic experience, we want to know. Please get in touch through our Contact page, and we will review and correct it as quickly as possible. Significant corrections will be noted on the relevant page.
A Note on Professional Care
Our books and articles are educational resources, not medical, psychological, or diagnostic advice. If you are struggling with burnout, mental health, or wellbeing, please speak with a qualified healthcare professional. For more detail, see our Disclaimer.
